The United States Should Not Have Mandatory Recycling Laws

Mandatory recycling has it's good points, but it also has it's bad. People who oppose mandatory recycling laws think that the cost of recycling makes it not worth it. The cost of transporting and sorting recyclables makes the cost more than landfills. For transporting the recyclables, people will need to be hired to drive a truck and pick up recycling from people;s houses. The costs of the gas and how far the trucks will have to go will end up in the cost for a driver. For sorting the recyclables, there will need to be people and machines working to sort it. That can cost a lot of money because the workers will have to get paid and the machines and equipment will need to be bought. People like landfills because they are inexpensive, in most states, and efficient. Another reason some people do not want mandatory recycling laws is because they do not think people should be fined if they do not recycle. If these laws are in forced and someone had recyclables in their garbage they would either be warned or fined by inspectors or pickup crews. Some people think that the fines are taking it to far. Instead of in forcing mandatory recycling laws,  the government should let the people choose whether they recycle or not. They believe that everyone should be able to make their own decision on whether to recycle. The solution for this side of the argument is to not have mandatory recycling laws and to let people use their freedom to choose, whether to recycle or not. Recycling still can be promoted like it is today, but should not be mandatory. If it is not mandatory people do not need to worry about fines and recycling inspectors.
